RSS (Really Simple Sydication)
What is RSS?
In today’s day and age we are bombarded with information everywhere we turn. But it is not always the information we are actually interested in. Instead of having to tediously flick through page after page of online information contained within billions of websites, surely it would be easier if the news and affairs you are looking for were delivered to you as and when they happen.
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a new system which does exactly that. It enables you to pick and choose the current affairs issues that concern you, and have them sent straight to your desktop. The system is still in its early stages of development with only a handful of websites offering RSS – namely the Guardian, New York Times and CNN.
How to set up RSS
The first basic requirement is an RSS news reader. There are a variety of versions that are browser accessed or downloadable programmes, but the important similarity is that all editions allow you to opt for the RSS alerts that interest you.
