Mount Isa

Mount Isa is a great base from which to explore the west of Queensland. The main attraction in Isa is the Outback experience, which features an underground mining museum, a historic fossil centre and the famous Outback Park with its waterfalls, lagoons, walking trails and the unique outdoor amphitheatre which is host to concerts and festivals, particularly in the summer. Also in Isa is the Royal Flying Doctors Service Base which provides guided tours for guests to learn more about this 24-hour emergency service that has operated since 1964.

Mount Isa offers a true Aussie dose of the great outdoors, with great opportunities for fishing, camping and four-wheel driving. For the less adventurous, Mount Isa's surroundings are also ideal for relaxation beside a stunning Outback sunset.

Mount Isa's fame and most of its financial income derives from its mine which is the world's largest single producer of copper, silver, lead and zinc. This rich source still produces vast quantities of ore, and is considered one of the world's greatest mines.

The breathtaking Lawn Hill Gorge in Boodjamulla National Park and the world-heritage listed Riversleigh Fossil Fields cannot be missed and are within reachable distance of Mount Isa.
