Brisbane
Brisbane is the state capital of Queensland, and is nicknamed Bris Vegas locally due to its subtropical climate. Brisbane itself is home to an abundance of galleries, cinemas, museums and gardens, but within easy driving distance is the Gold Coast with its exhilarating theme parks and golden beaches, and nearby mountains, rivers, and rainforests. With its hot summers and pleasant winters, Brisbane is an ideal holiday location all-year-round, and is a friendly, welcoming and laid-back place where you can be sure of a great Australian experience.
The city centre is vibrant and cosmopolitan, with glass skyscrapers and sandstone churches dominating the tree-lined streets and waterfront of the Brisbane River. Riverside walks are the best way to get your bearings of the city, particularly on the South Bank where walks and cycle paths extend from under the Story Bridge. The Botanic Gardens at the top of the city has themed gardens, garden walks and a riverside boardwalk area for exploration. The city's best lookout point is Mount Coot-tha, which offers panoramic views over Brisbane and out towards Moreton Bay.
