Tiwi Islands Travel Information
The Tiwi Islands are situated just 80km north of Darwin in the Arafura Sea. The Aboriginal inhabitants of the islands speak their own native Tiwi language. Melville is the larger of the two islands, and is the second biggest in Australia after Tasmania. A trip to the islands offers an insight into a modern-day Aboriginal community and exploration of the lush rainforests, waterfalls, unique arts and crafts and the Tomorapi and Taracumbie Falls swimming holes. The Tiwi Islands can be accessed by flight from Darwin on a one or two day organised tour.
