Ayers Rock (Uluru)
Ayers Rock - also referred to by its Aboriginal name Uluru - is the world’s largest monolith and Australian’s most famous landmark. Many tourists attempt the difficult 1.6km climb to the top of Ayers Rock, but very few succeed. Ayers Rock is in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, which is owned and managed by local Aboriginals. They believe that below Ayers Rock is a vast hollow area of dreamtime energy – a force that represents Aboriginal heritage and culture – and because of this, Ayers Rock is a very sacred and spiritual place for Aboriginals. Despite this, they welcome visitors and are happy to offer guided tours.
