Ashes Tour 2006

November 2006 and January 2007

The Ashes Tour 2006 will take place down under and is the most exciting sporting event of the year for cricket lovers. The Boxing Day Test is expected to be in Melbourne, and the New Year’s test will take place in Sydney. Before these major events there will be test matches in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The tour takes place between November 2006 and January 2nd 2007, and is an excitement and adrenalin fuelled tournament for both players and spectators!

A brief history of the Ashes

The Ashes cricket contest takes place every two years, and is one of the world's most competitive and exciting sporting events. In 2005, England was victorious and claimed back the Ashes after they had been in the hands of the Aussies for eighteen consecutive years! The name of the tournament; 'The Ashes', derives from an obituary printed in 1882 in 'The Sporting Times' mockingly mourning the death of English cricket after Australia beat them at The Oval. The Ashes urn contains the burnt remains of the bails used in this historic match, and is said to represent the remains of English cricket. The urn is kept in the MCC Museum at Lord's and is too old and precious to be continually transported between England and Australia, so today the winning team is presented with a crystal trophy instead.
